With over 30 years of experience in the field of microfinance, MEDA is recognized as an industry leader in supporting the delivery of sustainable microfinance products and services, balancing both research and development activities with field-level application of solutions to improve access to finance for the poor.
Why Microfinance?
A range of factors prevents poor families, farmers, rural households, and small businesses from accessing loans and other financial services through conventional sources such as banks. These factors can include lower economic resources, remote location, lack of assets, illiteracy, gender, business informality, or cultural restrictions.
MEDA works to make financial systems in developing countries more inclusive for all citizens, especially the poor, because improved access to financial services is one way that micro-entrepreneurs, rural households, and small businesses can reduce their vulnerability and increase their options for building a better life for themselves and their families.
