Regional Director, Resource Development
The Regional Director, Resource Development will work to increase financial support for MEDA from new donors, existing donors, foundations and others in North America. The position will have responsibility for achieving major gift targets by raising donations for MEDA through cultivation, ongoing evaluation, and recognition of donors. The Regional Director, Resource Development will maintain professional and effective relationships with donors/ members/ investors through personal contacts, phone conversations, written communications, chapter meetings, conferences and other suitable means. This position will require regular travel within the U.S. Mid-West territory. The start date is October 2010.
Qualifications:
- Minimum five (5) years demonstrated experience in not-for-profit fundraising.
- Accreditation in a nationally recognized fundraising education program (or working towards accreditation).
- Highly motivated, self-starter, achieving results with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge and skills in business principles with emphasis on marketing/sales.
- Excellent and proven interpersonal skills in relationship building, active listening, communicating, negotiation and leadership.
- Skills to work with tools such as multi-media presentations, word processing/ spreadsheets, and e-mail.
- Understanding of the Moves Management system for cultivating gifts and investment funds.
- Knowledge and understanding of MEDA's constituency (Mennonite, Anabaptist and Christian business and professionals).

Project Manager – Market Linkages
The Project Manager will have primary responsibility for managing development projects and partnerships related to market linkages and value chain development. Specific duties will include providing technical support to projects and partners, overseeing project implementation, preparing and monitoring workplans and budgets, preparing financial and narrative reports and managing effective donor, client, and partner relationships. Currently the position is responsible for managing the ongoing project in Afghanistan and the candidate must be willing to travel to Afghanistan periodically. The Project Manager will also be responsible for delivering short term consulting assignments and contributing to new business development for the area of women’s economic development. This is a full time permanent position, based in Waterloo, Canada. Regular international travel to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, and other locations is required. Ideal start date is August 2010.
Qualifications:
- University degree, ideally a Masters, in International Economic Development, Rural Development, Business, Agriculture Economics or related field.
- Proven track record of at least five (5) years experience in project management and delivering consulting services in one or more of the following areas: value chains, women’s economic development, international business, rural development, agribusiness investment, financial sector development or related field
- Minimum of two (2) years management experience in overseas location is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of bi- and multi- lateral government agencies, donors (including foundations and private donors), non-governmental organizations and other development agencies working in economic growth and development
- Excellent and demonstrable skills in building relationships, intercultural engagement, networking and interpersonal communication.
- Proficiency in a second language such as Dari, Urdu,, French or Spanish or is highly desirable
- Willingness to undertake extensive international travel.

DCOP / Value Chain Specialist
MEDA seeks to hire a DCOP/Value Chain Specialist for USAID Pakistan Entrepreneurs, a $30million five-year project that will be implemented through June 2014. The project works across Pakistan in subsectors that have the greatest potential to reach and benefit marginalized women, at scale. It aims to increase the incomes of 120,000 micro-entrepreneurs who are predominantly women. This position is based in Islamabad, Pakistan and reports to the Chief of Party. The start date is August 2010.
Position Summary
The DCOP/Value Chain Specialist (VCS) will assist the COP in the management of the USAID Pakistan Entrepreneurs project ensuring achievement of project deliverables. As Value Chain Specialist, s/he will oversee the implementation of at least 6 value chain projects and ensure integration of the marketing and financing components in support of the value chain initiatives. He/she is responsible for the contractual oversight and operational management of the partner organisations’ activities as they relate to the project.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in business administration, management, economic development, international development or related field.
- Minimum 8 years progressive management experience, with at least three years at a senior management role, in a mix of economic growth/value chain /enterprise development programs – experience working with women is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success in implementing value chains programs including design, implementation and monitoring, preferably in an conflict environment
- Proven creativity, willingness to innovate, think systemically and design catalytic approaches to intervening leading to sustainable value chains
- Experience in capacity building of business development service providers (BDSPs) and/or local NGOs
- Ability to partner with a variety of individuals and organizations, including senior management of large private-sector players, US government officials, Federal/local government officials, international agencies, donor organizations, producers/farmers and other players in the value chain.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Urdu is and advantage

The Project Manager will also be responsible for delivering short term consulting assignments and contributing to new business development. This is a full time permanent position, and based in either Waterloo, Canada or Washington DC. Regular international travel to Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, and other locations is required. Ideal start date is August 2010.

Project Manager - Youth & Financial Services
The Project Manager will have primary responsibility for managing donor projects related to youth and financial services. Specific duties will include preparing plans and budgets, overseeing project implementation, submitting financial and narrative reports and managing effective donor relationships. In addition, the Project Manager will also deliver short term consulting assignments, develop new projects, and cultivate new and existing clients and donors. This is a full time permanent position, and can be based in either Waterloo, Canada or Washington DC. Regular travel to North Africa and other locations is required. Ideal start date is August 2010.
Qualifications:
- University degree, ideally a Masters, in Business, International Economic Development or related field.
- Proven track record of at least five (5) years experience in project management and delivering consulting services in one or more of the following areas: youth programming, sustainable livelihoods, microfinance, etc.
- Ideally two (2) years management experience in overseas location.
- Strong understanding of bi- and multi- lateral government agencies, donors, non-governmental organizations and other development agencies.
- Excellent skills in building relationships, networking and interpersonal communication.
- French proficiency is required.
