Get ready for your trip!
Thank you for joining us on MEDA's Myanmar on the Move trip Nov 8-18. There are two groups on this trip – the bike tour in beautiful Kayin State, led by Dean Shoemaker, and the bus tour in the equally spectacular Shan State, led by Bethany Nussbaum.
We hope this and other information on this site will help you get ready for the trip of a lifetime!
Next steps for trip preparation
Here are some of the things you need to start now:
Flights - Start looking at flight options. Plan to have your flight booked three months in advance of departure - early August.
- For US residents, we recommend working with Golden Rule Travel. Contact Myron Miller via email - firstname.lastname@example.org - or call (888) 950-3273 for details. Canadians may wish to book through A. Nash Travel in Canada. Feel free to check in with us on questions related to flights.
- Make sure that you are scheduled to arrive in Yangon, Myanmar by Nov. 8. Our staff find that arriving in the late evening makes it easier to acclimatize to the time zone, rather than early morning arrivals. You don't want to miss the trip orientation session, an important briefing where you will meet Aye Aye Mar, our trip organizer, Cavelle Dove, IMOW's country project manager, and your trip leaders.
Passports – Please check your passport now, in case it needs to be renewed. Your passport must be valid for six months following your time in Myanmar - May 18, 2018.
Visas – A visa is required for all tourists to Myanmar. You must apply for a visa prior to travel at a Myanmar diplomatic mission (New York City, Washington, DC, or Ottawa). E-visas are also available. Our staff recommend e-visas. Please thoroughly read the information here: https://evisa.moip.gov.mm/NoticetoTourists.aspx. It covers timing (3-day processing), cost, etc. Additional visa tips:
Vaccinations – Please plan to visit your doctor or local travel clinic well in advance to determine what vaccinations you need to update before you leave. Here are the CDC's recommendations: https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/burma
